Three Medical Writers

Abstract

This article discusses three Mexican doctors who have combined their profession with literary writing: E. Césarman, B. Estañol and F. Ortiz Quezada. The issue is not new if we remember the list that includes Chekhov and Céline, but a unitary vision of three Mexicans is pertinent, not only because they are contemporaries but also because Estañol and César came to write books together. The humanistic view of their medical practice is a common denominator they have because they always think of the commercial zeal that has been appropriating their noble task. Another is the concern they show to unravel what matter is in the minds of writers that makes them different from the rest of mortals. Although they do not come to a valid conclusion, continue their searches in a fascinating and enlightening adventure.
